Dale’s youth team finished off 2nd place in the League and a brilliant 5-2 defeat against Macclesfield for the last game of the season on Saturday 8th May 2010. Dale’s goals were scored by Tom Bentham in the 17th minute, Helio Andre in the 41st minute, Laurie Bell in the 43rd minute and Godwin Abadaki in the 50th and 85th minute of the game. Chris Beech gives his views on the game “a good test today playing only U17’s in a youth game. Great result and at times some good football played. The standards and outputs need to be higher and more consistent to replicate or better a youth section which will definitely be one of the most successful in recent history. Finishing 2nd in the Youth Alliance, and getting to the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup, playing Aston Villa away where great experiences. Seeing and working with individuals excelling is great to see. Both Chris Brown and Callum Byrne join professional ranks. We will work hard to help out the 2nd years that didn’t get contracts here to gain contracts elsewhere. The team is unbeaten since Aston Villa away in December 2009, only losing four games this season which is very good. We have already activated on our Out of Season conditioning which will help both our 1st years and our U16’s becoming scholars and possible professional footballers here at Rochdale AFC in League 1. I would like to thank all the staff which effects our youth section for playing their part in this success and reflecting on where the youth section was to where it sits today, is because of this endeavour, decision making and professionalism.
