Dale’s youth team continued their fine form with a 5-1 win over Morecambe on Saturday 24th April 2010. Dale’s goals were scored by Dennis Sherriff in the 4th minute, Helio Andre in the 6th minute, Josh Brizell in the 41st minute, an own goal in the 50th minute and Tom Bentham in the 66th minute of the game. Chris Beech gives his views on the game “A good result and performance on a bobbly pitch. Resting both Scott Hogan and Callum Byrne gave more opportunity to play a younger youth team. This was our 30th game of the season so with a look at our overall progress balanced against our average age makes interesting reading. 30 games x 16 players = 480 players in squads. Looking at these statistics over the season so far, this has seen the involvement of 1 U15, 68 U16, 246 1st Years and 157 2nd years. This bodes well for the future. Loaning older players out like we have, rested players at times and yet we are still meeting high end qualities in performances and results. Although over the season we have filled positions with ½ as many as 2nd years to 1st years, we must then look at the main contributors to this success. And that without a doubt lies with good players doing good things and our 2nd years have leaded the way without a doubt in that progression, complimented well with good performances from 1st years and schoolboys. The big question to ask is can the 1st years step up to the plate and can our new 1st years hit the ground running next season. We will see.
