THE SCHOOL USE THE ASTROTURF UP TO THIS TIME MOST WEEKS AND WISH TO AVOID ANY ISSUES RELATING TO CHILD PROTECTION, WHICH MAY ARISE IF PARENTS ARRIVE ANY EARLIER.

Castle Irwell Student Village
Please note that the University of Salford’s Student Union no longer manage the facilities at Castle Irwell. The site is now managed by the University authorities. As a result of this change, the facility will not be open until 09:30am and should close at 12:30pm. This means that nets and corner flags will need to be erected on arrival and games will need to kick off on time. Any delay in the kick off will mean that playing time may have to be reduced in order to stay within this time frame. Please contact Colin McLaren if you have any queries regarding this arrangement.

Injuries

ALL PLAYERS must report injuries to their respective coaches to enable them to evaluate squad availability for the fixtures taking place each Sunday morning.

Treatment and Assessment sessions will be held at the Soccer Factory each Tuesday evening from 6pm – 7:30pm and ALL the coaches are aware of this arrangement.

Assessment and Professional Rehabilitation will take place each Friday evening at Matthew Moss High School, at the allotted times, for the specific age group listed below:

5:00PM – 6:15PM U9/U10/U11
6:15PM – 7:30PM U12/U13/U14
7:30PM – 9:15PM U15/U16

Please see the youth website for initial treatment of mainly soft tissue injuries as the first 24-48 hours are so important.

I am available on 07976 097 077 if you require any further information. Thank you for taking the time to read this information. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Information Regarding Child Protection

Please note that the Club has been asked by the Football Association to circulate the following information to all staff, parents and players.

Dear Colleague,

A number of FA County Welfare Officers have contacted Rachel Tarr concerned about a website ‘Wannabe A Footballer’. This site offers the opportunity for any age range to set up a personal profile page, make scouts (identity unknown at this stage) aware of where and when they are playing. It also allows clubs to advertise for players. It appears this invitation to get involved with ‘Wannabe A Footballer’ has been circulated widely and there do not appear to be any reassurances regarding any safeguards that may be in place.

Rachel Tarr has contacted ‘Wannabe A Footballer’ to ask to speak with them about these concerns, to date she has had no response. She has also asked CEOP to look into this. The FA will of course keep us informed of any outcome from this query.

If you have any knowledge of information on this site I would be pleased to hear from you. It would help if you could check with your recruitment officers (scouts) to see if any of them are involved in scouting for this site.

At this point we are just identifying risks associated with such sites and trying to confirm if they have any measures in place to protect children who may wish to register. I have attached a work document which outlines free membership but I would recommend that you do not visit the website and add to their ‘hits’ as there is no background information on the organisation or information with the site only registration forms for Wannabe’s Amateur Clubs and Amateur Teams.

Rachel has provided FA County Welfare Officer with the following advice for players or parents asking for advice on this site. (see below)

Regards,

Ann Hussey
Child Protection Advisor

To FA County Welfare Officer from Rachel Tarr:-

For those of you who are asked by clubs or individuals to give advice on this site I would recommend that anyone wishing to make use of a site setting up meetings with players ask the following questions and then decide for themselves if they consider this opportunity poses any risks to those U18:

• Does the site provide a clear understanding and commitment to safeguarding?

• Is there guidance available for parents/carers and young people regarding safeguards that they have put in place or recommend you put in place?

• Does the site explain who will have access to your data?

• Do you know who the site is proposing will be told when and where your child is playing football?

• Does the site confirm that the ‘scouts’ who may be asked to view your son/daughter playing are appropriately qualified and have safeguarding training and maybe have a CRB check?

Please see the attached document for a copy of the invitation that has been emailed widely across the football networks. I have also shared this information with the Premier League and Football League.

Best wishes,

Rachel Tarr
