Dale’s youth team played Blackpool FC on Saturday 28th November 2009, which was an excellent performance and finished in a 3 – 1 win. Dale’s goals for the youth team were scored by Dennis Sherriff in the 15th and 70th minute and the other goal by Josh Brizell who scored in the 25th minute of the game. We caught up with boss Chris Beech who gave his views on the game “With four scholars training today with the first team and five scholars in the treatment room the youth team squad carried six U16players from our Centre of Excellence, with all six on the pitch at the end of the game seeing out a comfortable win in the end. Callum Byrne responded well too early to a set back going 1-0 down with a drive and shot with Dennis Sherriff tapping home rebound. Callum Byrne was excellent today with work rate drive, composure and quality. He needs these qualities in the big games coming up and I am sure he will deliver. He was closely followed behind by all second years today which were great to see. A great experience today for the U16’s and I am sure they will have learnt quite a bit to aid their development. Following a successful night at Boundary Park the older players need praise for their professionalism.
