Dale Overcome Oldham in the FA Youth Cup Round 2 : Rochdale AFC News

Dale Overcome Oldham in the FA Youth Cup Round 2

Dale’s youth team showed off their fine performance with a 5 – 3 win over Oldham Athletic on Wednesday 25th November 2009 in the FA Youth Cup Round 2.

Dennis Sherriff, Scott Hogan and Josh Brizell (2) and 1 own goal, scored the goals for Dale, capping off performance which boss Chris Beech thought was excellent.

Chris Beech gives his views on the game “Fantastic result always leading throughout the game yet neither team in the first half ere not really stamping their authority on the game, but we always felt a little more control of the game at half time at 2 – 2. First half highlight was Dennis Sherriff finishing a well taken team goal and Reece Gray’s creativity and movement.

Second half much different as our pressure turned into goals racing into a 5-2 lead with goals from Josh Brizell with a penalty after Scott Hogan was tripped, Scott Hogan sublime touch and finish and another Josh Brizell set play with a W/F kick sliding straight into the goal. With more opportunities we didn’t make the best of them but the damage had already been done. With Oldham fighting back towards the end of the game they scored a third goal, but we won 5 – 3.

Round 3 of the FA Youth Cup V Aston Villa, at Villa Park the lad were absolutely fantastic and what’s more pleasing is that although the result was very good, we know in terms of overall performance we have more in the locker. I have enquired straight after our game for DVDs and information on Villa from friends. I have had the lads working at their level and our preparation and planning to meet the next challenge will be first class. As our intention is not to go just for a day out but to give Villa our professional respect and meet the game head on and look to progress even further. I would just like to thank Oldham Athletic for their hospitality with tickets and our own Centre of Excellence for their tremendous support. Well Done.

Dale: Taberner, Brizell, Buckley, Bell, Roche, Brown, Hogan, Byrne, Gray, Sherriff, Murray, Benjamin (68), Andrews, Andre, Fagbola (85), Tinker (84).
