Youth Team Update
Chris Beech’s youth team had a 2 - 2 draw with Accrington Stanley on Saturday 10th October at Rossendale.

Dale were 1 - 0 down at 50 minutes due to a free header. Poor pressing and a bad clearance from Laurie Bell and Tom Bentham resulted in a 2nd goal for Accrington just two minutes later.

However, goals from Scott Hogan and Dennis Sherriff enabled Rochdale to draw level. Reece Gray turned and crossed for S Hogan to score with a clinical finish in the 65th minute. With 8 minutes remaining, Liam Murray drove in a hard, low cross for Dennis Sherriff to finish.

We caught up with Chris Beech who gave his overall view:

‘Resting three 2nd year scholars made a massive difference to our overall possession and use of the ball. It was interesting to see leaders coming out of the blocks and taking responsibility with and without the ball.’

‘Although players are trying to achieve this, the penny hasn’t quite dropped in some cases. We need to work harder.’

‘You may not always be getting what you want because when tomorrow comes the players need to be ready to take that responsibility and opportunity. This means planning and implementing today for tomorrow.’

Dale: Taberner, Roche, Wheeler, Dale, Bentham, Bell, Benjamin, Murray, Sherriff, Tinker, Gray, (Andre 55), (Hogan 55).

Dale’s next youth team fixture is on Saturday 17th October 2009 when we host Oldham Athletic at Rossendale’s Dark Lane. Kick off is 11am.
