Sport Science & Medicine

The Academy Sport Science department is here to support you on and off the pitch. There are 3 main areas to our Sport Science support:

Prehabilitation - Injury prevention

Rehabilitation - Recovering from Injury

Psychology - Your Attitude and Application in Training & Games

Prehabilitation

In order for you to spend as much time on the pitch, you must look after your body. It is important you develop Football Specific Functional Movements, and then later in your Academy life you must develop Strength & Power in preparation for a career as a professional footballer in the modern game. Players who commit to their individual programmes will give themselves the best chance of progressing in the Academy as High Achievers and will be recognised by the Academy staff.

To support your Prehabilitation we will:

Provide Fitness Testing 2 times per season (3 times for U18's)

Provide Individual Functional Movement Programmes to support any imbalances which maybe apparent from the Fitness Testing

Provide Strength & Power programmes for age related players

Provide weekly Physical specific programmes incorporated into the age specific Coaching Programmes

Provide Nutritional & dietary advice and guidance

Rehabilitation

In order for you to recover from any injuries as quickly as possible and get back on the pitch, it is absolutely crucial that you adhere to the expert advice given by the professionals.

This includes being honest with yourselves and not trying to play through injury, listening carefully to the advice of the Physiotherapist's, completing set tasks, and most importantly allowing the injury time to heal and not rushing back which may prove more harmful in the long run. Also, you must inform the Physiotherapists as soon as you feel the injury, DO NOT wait until the next time you are due to play or train as this may again prove more harmful than beneficial. Physiotherapists are not available for clinics on Match Day's unless otherwise arranged.
